Dental Implants

Patients who have missing teeth may be candidates for dental implants. Dental implants do more than replace the missing tooth by anchoring a dental crown or bridge. The primary goal of dental implants is to artificially replace the root of the tooth. By doing this, the dental implant prevents bone loss and gum shrinkage that occurs with the missing root. This procedure is performed by the experienced implant dentists at the Carolina Center for Advanced Dentistry for both function and aesthetics.

Dental Implants Procedure

The dental implant procedure involves placing titanium posts directly into the jawbone. This anchor acts as the root of the tooth. Part of the implant, called the abutment, protrudes above the gum line where the porcelain crown will be placed. The placement of the dental implants is performed surgically often with the help of a diode laser. Laser dentistry has come a long way and this means the dental implant procedure is shorter in both duration and healing time. There is much less discomfort with the use of the laser.

Once the jawbone has grown around the implants, the crown is placed to act as your new teeth or tooth. These can be milled in-house using the CEREC machine.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Some of the benefits of dental implants include:

  • Long term solution for missing teeth that do not need replacement
  • Much stronger and more durable than bridges or dentures
  • Can replace a single missing tooth or support a bridge for several missing teeth
  • Several implants in the upper or lower jaw can anchor a denture, producing a much more stable, comfortable prosthesis

The best candidates for dental implants are those who have enough healthy jaw bone that can support the dental implant. Patients should also have good general oral health and not be smokers.

Why Choose Us

Every dental implant placed at the Carolina Center for Advanced Dentistry is first planned utilizing cone-beam CT technology. This low-radiation, 3-D CT scan is performed in our office allowing implant placement with unsurpassed precision. It removes the guesswork associated with two-dimensional x-rays.

By performing the dental implant procedure entirely in-house, we can treat each patient with close attention paid to each part of the procedure. This leads to comprehensive care with a procedure that takes a little time to heal. Rather than referring our patients out to a specialist, we place both the dental implant and the artificial tooth. Our implant dentists focus on each patient’s unique situation and seek the best solution to their dental needs.
