Jeff W. Horowitz, DMD, FAGD
Dr. Jeff Horowitz, a native of New Jersey, pursued his undergraduate studies at the University of Pittsburgh and earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1991. Prior to opening his dental practice in Conway, South Carolina, Dr. Horowitz completed an additional year of training in a general practice residency at the Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, N.J. Cara Coleman Lawson, DMD
Dr. Patricia Carolyn Coleman Lawson ("Cara") is from Lake City, South Carolina. She graduated Magna Cum Laude and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry at the University of South Carolina. Dr. Lawson graduated from dental school at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston in May 2012. After her time at MUSC, she completed the Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency program at Georgia Regents University in Augusta, Georgia. The program helped further her education in general dentistry as well as implant dentistry and conscious sedation. She is a current member of the South Carolina Dental Association. Shawna Collins, DMD
Dr. Shawna Collins, a native of Greenville, South Carolina, attended Wofford College, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1994, where she was awarded the Sandra K. Thore Integrity Award and the Organization of Teachers of Oral Diagnosis Award. Martin Bockler, DMD
Originally from New York, Dr. Bockler received his Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Polytechnic Institute of New York and his Doctor of Dental Medicine from Washington University in St. Louis, MO. Dr Bockler started practicing Dentistry in New York in 1976, and brings some 40 years of experience in Adult, Geriatric, Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry to our practice. Click here to learn more.
Emily - Office Manager and Registered Dental Hygienist
Emily is originally from the Charlotte, North Carolina area, and began working in our practice as a Registered Dental Hygienist when she moved to South Carolina in 2003. Prior to receiving her hygiene degree, Emily was a certified as a dental assistant. Once she got her feet wet in the dental arena, she decided to go back to school and attain her degree in dental hygiene. She went on to become certified to administer anesthesia and nitrous oxide, which serves as a real convenience for her patients. Recently Emily has reduced the number of hours
that she spends doing hygiene and has taken on the role of office manager, where she is a natural fit. She is always enthusiastic and eager to help both her patients and her coworkers. With her warm, understanding personality, Emily is a true team player who works very hard to provide everyone with a professional yet relaxed environment.
Shannon - Receptionist and Financial Coordinator
Shannon has been working in our practice since 2006, and works tirelessly to make our patients feel right at home when they visit our office. She loves getting to know our patients and will go above and beyond the call of duty to make sure that all of their needs are met. Shannon manages the day to day administration of the Carolina Center for Advanced Dentistry including verifying insurance benefits and filing insurance claims for any dental work that our patients have done. She enjoys the challenge of getting insurance companies to pay for what our patients deserve. She also schedules and coordinates appointments and will go out of her way to make sure that the time is convenient for everyone.
Shannon prides herself on her organizational skills and is always available to answer any questions or help solve any problems that you may have.
Linda - Receptionist and Appointment Coordinator
Linda is originally from Pineville, North Carolina and moved to Conway in 2006. She came to work at the Carolina Center for Advanced Dentistry the same year. At our office Linda wears many hats. She greets our patients when they come in and makes sure that they have whatever they need to be comfortable while they're here. She also organizes all in going and out going lab work and ensures that everyone has an appointment scheduled when their lab work comes back. Without a doubt, Linda's energy level cannot be matched! She is continuously doing such things as decorating our office for every holiday and planting flowers outside of our front door.
She works very hard to always keep our office looking beautiful. If you ask her, Linda would tell you that her favorite part about her job with us is getting to meet all of our patients and their families and becoming familiar with whatever their dental needs are. Although it seems like she works endlessly, when she is not at work, Linda enjoys camping, walking, and working out at Conway's local gym. She is also very involved in her church and the activities that they offer.
Jennifer - Registered Dental Hygienist
Our longtime hygienist, Jennifer, is a real go getter! Jennifer has been a Registered Dental Hygienist since 2002. She originally worked in Dr. Badgett's practice, but when our offices merged together in 2006, Jennifer came over to work with us. She was born in Youngstown, Ohio, but was raised in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
Jennifer always had an interest in the healthcare field, and when she realized tht dental care had a direct correlation with people's health and that the local college offered a degree in the field, she knew this career path was right for her. She earned her Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene from Horry Georgetown Technical College where she graduated Magna cum laude in 2002.
While she was there she was awarded the President's Award, a Scholastic Achievement Award, and the Alpha Nu Sigma Service and Leadership Award. Post graduation she has gone onto attain a license in Infiltration of Anestesia and Nitrous Oxide Administration from the Medical University of South Carolina. Jennifer's favorite thing about her job are her patients. She loves the close relationships that she has made with them throughout the years and knowing that she is providing them with a service that will improve their lives by making them healthier and more confident.
Outside of our practice, Jennifer, a mom of two boys, leads a very busy life! She is involved with the Organization Law Enforcement United and has served on the Horry Georgetown Technical College's Dental Science Advisory Committee since 2002. This committee helps the college keep up to date with current trends in the dental office. They also organize and help find funding for free or low cost dental care for children and low income patients, including the well known Give Kids A Smile Day. Jennifer is also a volunteer at her son's schools and many after school activities such as baseball, soccer, football, and student council. She enjoys bike riding, walking, and just about anything else she can find to do outdoors! Of course, since she is originally from the Pittsburgh area, she is obviously a Pittsburgh Steeler fan!
Kelley - Registered Dental Hygienist
Kelley came to work for us straight out of dental hygiene school in 2011. She is a local girl, born and raised in Conway, South Carolina. After graduation from Conway High School, Kelley went onto Horry Georgetown Technical College. While she was in school she worked at the City of Conway Marina and was able to pay her way through college. She graduated debt free and at the same time earned her degree in Applied Science in Dental Hygiene. After coming to work with us, she went onto become certified in Infiltration of Anesthesia and Nitrous Oxide Administration from MUSC.
Kelley always loved teeth and has a passion for seeing her patients improve their over-all health and smile. She is committed to working with her patients to ensure that their dental visits are always positive and that they always leave our office with a smile!
Through the years of working at our office, Kelley has formed many close friendships with her coworkers. She refers to them as her work family. They often spend time together outside of the workday going to concerts or hanging out at the river. Even though she finally left her job at the Marina, she is still involved with the Waccamaw Riverkeepers. She always participates in the river clean up. She loves kayaking, hiking, shopping, and crafting, but her favorite thing in the world is spending time with her boyfriend and her Labrador retriever.
Vanessa - Registered Dental Hygienist
As a young girl, Vanessa always enjoyed going to her dentist, Dr. Badgett. By the eighth grade she had made her mind up that she wanted to be a registered dental hygienist when she grew up. Vanessa was born and raised in Cool Springs, South Carolina. She was educated in the Aynor school system, and is a graduate of Aynor High School. She attended Horry Georgetown Technical College and graduated in 2010 with an Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene. While she was there, she was awarded the prestigious Director's Award.
Since graduation, Vanessa has gone on to become certified in Nitrous Oxide Administration and Infiltration of Anestesia from the Medical University of South Carolina.
Vanessa loves her job at the Carolina Center for Advanced Dentistry. She appreciates the nice family atmosphere, and likes the fact that everyone works together to help serve our patients. She always makes sure to listen to every patient's needs, and strives to educate and motivate them to work toward a common goal of great oral health and a beautiful smile. It is her personal goal to be the best hygienist that she can be when she is at work, and when she is home her goal is to be the best mom in the world! In Vanessa's free time her favorite thing to do is to spend time with her family, especially her beautiful little girl. She also enjoys reading, watching television, and going to church.
Katy - Registered Dental Hygienist
Katy started out in the dental field as a dental assistant, but ultimately went back to Florence Darlington Technical College and earned her degree as a Registered Dental Hygienist. Although she began working at the Carolina Center for Advanced Dentistry in 2014, she has been a practicing dental hygienist since 1997.
Katy has a fun loving nature which makes her a favorite with both patients and her co-workers alike. She has a knack for connecting with people and creates a very welcoming atmosphere that gives patients the confidence that they are getting the best service available. Katy’s strong focus on patient care and her diverse educational background are evident in the way she communicates with her patients by listening to their needs and educating them about their dental health. Her passion for dental care matches that of our doctor’s making her a perfect fit for our practice.
Katy and her husband Tim live in Aynor, SC where they stay super busy all the time raising their three sons. She is a true “baseball mom.” With what little time Katy has left after being a wife, mother, and hygienist, she devotes to her other passion and favorite hobby, photography.
Kelly - Dental Assistant
Kelly was born and raised right here in Conway, South Carolina. She graduated in 2009 from Horry Georgetown Technical College as an expanded duty dental assistant. She is also certified as a straight wire assistant through the American Orthodontic Society. Kelly is CPR, DANB, and Nitrous Oxide certified, which makes it possible for her to assist our doctors in all aspects of treatment. She is a truly dedicated employee who treats every patient in the most gentle manner. She loves having the opportunity to help others build confidence through their smile. Having a pretty smile is important to Kelly, making it is her mission to help others achieve a beautiful, healthy smile.
In her professional life outside of the Carolina Center for Advanced Dentistry, Kelly likes to participate in local health fairs and different business networking events such as the City of Conway Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours. When she is not giving of herself in the world of dentistry, her favorite things to do are travel, shop, and listen to music.
Amy - Dental Assistant
Amy is a native of Conway. She graduated from Conway High School where she took several advanced classes in Medical Careers. While taking these classes Amy had an opportunity to intern for Dr. Horowitz and immediately fell in love with dentistry. Post high school she attended Horry Georgetown Technical College's Dental Assisting program and earned earned a degree in Health Science in 2001. As soon as she earned her degree Amy came to work for the Carolina Center for Advanced Dentistry and has been a valuable employee since. Amy is a favorite with our patients! She loves helping people get their smiles back and finds satisfaction in knowing we are improving people's quality of life.
Although Amy's favorite dental procedures are in oral surgery, Amy has completed numerous hours of continuing education throughout her years with us and has earned many certifications. She has earned certifications from CEREC training, Dental Implants and Comprehensive Implant Therapy courses, Straightwire Orthodontic classes, and the JP Institute. She has also completed many OSHA courses and serves as the OSHA Coordinator in our office. Amy went through extensive training to use our I-CAT equipment and is also the coordinator of our radiation and sterilization areas.
Amy is an avid Gamecock fan as well as a devout member of the Conway Church of God. At church she serves as an assistant teacher for the church's Girl's Club. Her favorite things to do when she has free time are to spend time with her son, River, read, and go for long walks.
Cindy - Dental Assistant
Cindy has lived in Conway for her entire life, and has worked at the Carolina Center for Advanced Dentistry for what seems like a lifetime. She began assisting for Dr. Horowitz in 1996, and is truly his right hand man.
Although Cindy's most known in our office for heading up our orthodontic department, she assists Dr. Horowitz with all dental procedures. She has completed numerous hours of continuing education throughout her years with us and has earned many certifications. Cindy loves her career in the dental field, but her true lifetime love is her family. Cindy has two daughters who are the lights of her life. She spends most of her time outside of work traveling, shopping, and enjoying her time together with her girls. She is also the mother of two very special dogs, Clover and Chase, and a cat that adopted her, Emmet.
